Throwback Thursday :: Personal Halloween

It’s a #throwbackthursday episode on the blog!  This week, HALLOWEEN!  I’ve shared some of my favorites below, from Halloween 2006, my first year with my own trick-or-treaters, and the next ten years of Tricks and Treats!

2006: I had a homemade pea in a pod.  We went trick-or-treating with my Sister, the Pirate, that year.Baby Halloween pumpkin Pea in a pod pirate

2007: I had a scarecrow.  Freaking adorable, and homemade again! πŸ™‚  We met up with Dorothy and the cowardly lion for some trick-or-treatingBaby Halloween pumpkin scarecrow

2008: We added another trick-or-treater to our family πŸ™‚  Madalynn filled out the pea in the pod costume again, and poor Derik, I made him a carrot, for peas and carrots……  Yeah, homemade again πŸ˜‰Baby toddler halloween pumpkin patch pea in a pod carrot peas and carrots

2009: My babies are growing up!!  This year we did a ‘monsters’ theme: Frankenstein and a ghost.  And once again, I still had enough energy for homemade costumes πŸ˜‰Toddler Halloween pumpkin patch Frankenstein and a ghost

2010:  SO darling!  I had a knight in shining armor and a renaissance princess.  Notice I ran out of energy for the homemade costumes πŸ˜‰Toddler preschooler halloween knight in shining armor and renaissance princess job's nursery pumpkin patch

2011: This set is tied for my favorite set.  My two superheroes, Wonder Woman and Superman.  Freaking adorable, right??Toddler preschooler halloween super heroes wonder woman and superman toddler and preschooler halloween job's nursery pumpkin patch super heroes wonder woman and superman

2012: I think the Harry Potter and Luna Lovegood costumes are my favorite set so far!  But, we are huge HP fans at my house.Preschooler and kids halloween harry potter and luna lovegood

2013: This year I had Merida from Brave and The Lone Ranger.Kids Halloween merida from brave and the lone ranger pumpkins

2014: This year, we added another trick-or-treater to the family!  I wasn’t feeling it too much on the costumes, although I found this SUPER adorable Humpty Dumpty costume at Goodwill, but Andrew wasn’t sitting up solo yet, and it would have needed a sitting baby to make it the best!

Then aren’t my kids getting so big?!  I had a candy corn witch and some sort of army man πŸ™‚Halloween costumes, Candy Corn Witch and Army ManAdored by Meghan's family Halloween 2014

2015: We all did some dressing up for Halloween this year!  We had a butterfly, I was a chef, an adorable monkey, and I am still trying to figure out what my oldest was…… πŸ™‚Dressing up for Halloween isn't just for kids!

2016: We had another fun year of dressing up for Halloween!  I had a Kylo Ren, a Peacock, and a Mr. Bones πŸ™‚  These ages made this year super fun!

Trick-or-Treat, dressing up for Halloween is SO much fun!

And if you know me, you know I’m a BIG Harry Potter fan.  This year we actually WON tickets to The Academy of Children’s Theater Harry Potter party, so we dressed up in our Harry Potter costumes.  My kids still fit in their Gryffindor and Ravenclaw house robes, yay πŸ™‚  I made a slipcover with feathers so my toddler could go as Hedwig, Harry’s owl.  He had a cute owl mask, but of course, toddlers.  Then I dressed up as Hermoine after she had drank the Polyjuice Potion πŸ™‚  Clever, right?!Hedwig oil babywearing costume and Hermoine as a cat with Polyjuice Potion costume

2017:  It was a windy Halloween in 2017!  Totally makes for good photos, if you’re quick about it haha.  My kids are still dressing up (YES!), as an assassin, a phoenix, and of course, Batman (curly long blonde hair and all!).

2018:  So I love me some DIY costumes, for a few reasons.  Most costumes you get from the store in the $10-$20 range are the cheapest quality and basically suck.  I feel like you can get more creative if you take a DIY approach, you’ll have more of a costume that people might remember.  But sometimes, you will look back and think…. what was going on there?! hahaha.  This year, my Son was some sort of gun-slinging, hard-helmet-wearing, and still-getting-good-use-out-of-that-‘trench’-coat character.  My Daughter…. some sort of fox/cat/lemur (my favorite weird DIY so far!).  And my youngest, Batman, again.

2019: Again, another year of hodge-podge, and reusable costumes! When it comes to holidays, it’s nice to save some dollars on retail costs (YIKES!) and make a unique costume. My Daughter was a steampunk gal, youngest was Spiderman with muscles (thanks for the extra warmth with those muscles haha), and my oldest…. we don’t have a name for what he was….
